The
CitySens
project ("Safe sensor application in the intelligent city") has set
itself the goal of creating a comprehensive IoT infrastructure for the
urban area of Kamp-Lintfort and its surroundings with the
forward-looking LoRaWAN® wireless technology. In addition to setting up
the necessary infrastructure, the LoRaWAN® project will also develop
devices for the digital acquisition, transmission and evaluation of
measurement data. For this purpose, the project partners have joined
together to form a consortium. Under the leadership of IMST GmbH as
research partner and with the collaboration of Deutsche Funkturm GmbH,
LINEG, ISIS IC GmbH, Westnetz GmbH and Stadtwerke Kamp-Lintfort GmbH the
project partners will work together to advance digitization. This
project is supported by the European Regional Development Fund.
A
major milestone in the CitySens project was the installation of two
LoRaWAN® gateways on the winding tower of shaft I of the former
Friedrich Heinrich colliery, which will be commissioned just in time for
the start of the State Horticultual Show.
The
gateways installed at a height of about 80 meters allows for a large
area coverage of the urban area of Kamp-Lintfort, including rural areas
and neighbouring towns. Despite the low transmission power, the system
achieves ranges of over 20 km, thanks to the exposed location of the
gateways. In addition to the two LoRaWAN® gateways, five more have been
installed in the town of Kamp-Lintfort, enabling coverage of almost all
areas of the town by the LoRaWAN® network.
